Game Recap: Ice Hockey |

Hockey Suffers First Loss of the Season in Finale Versus LIU

JR Perdion and Brett Rylance each tallied two goals and an assist to pace LIU in a 6-1 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's ice hockey action Saturday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.
 
Luca Leighton and Noah Serdachny also scored and Dylan Kinch chipped in two assists for the Sharks (1-2-0), who picked up their first victory of the season. Daniel Duris finished with 22 saves between the pipes for the visitors.
 
Junior Walter Zacher scored the lone goal for the Golden Griffins (3-1-0), who suffered their first setback of the season. Junior Ethan Robertson got the start between the pipes and finished with 28 stops.
 
LIU scored twice in a 58-second span midway through the first period to grab a 2-0 lead. Perdion opened the scoring at the 9:43 mark of the opening frame, beating Robertson from the middle of the slot before Leighton doubled the Sharks margin on the next shift, converting on a breakaway opportunity for his second goal of the campaign.
 
LIU added three goals in the second period to increase its cushion. Perdion notched his second of the contest at the 8:52 mark of the middle frame, capitalizing on a Canisius turnover to make it a 3-0 contest.
 
Rylance scored back-to-back goals late in the second period to grow the advantage to 5-0 before Serdachny made it a 6-0 contest with a 5-on-3 goal less than a minute into the third period.
 
Zacher closed out the scoring with a power-play goal at the 6:37 mark of the thid period to spoil Duris' shutout bid.

GAME NOTES
• LIU outshot Canisius by a 34-23 margin for the contest, highlighted by a 26-9 edge over the first two periods.
• The Griffs were 1-for-4 on the power play while the Sharks were 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
• Canisius allowed the first goal of the game for the first time in four contests this season.
• Zacher scored his second power-play goal of the season with his third-period tally.
• Senior Grant Porter extended his point-scoring streak to four games as he picked up an assist on Zacher's goal.
• Senior Oliver Tarr moved his point-scoring streak to three games with a helper on Zacher's third-period tally.
• Freshman defenseman FJ Buteau made his collegiate debut in the contest.
