Women?s Lacrosse Earns IWLCA Academic Honors

Women's Lacrosse Canisius College Athletics

Campus Chronicles with Lisa Foligno

This is the craziest time of year for a student athlete in season, especially when the team is headed to the most exciting part?the MAAC Championship this weekend at Iona College! It was a wild ride to get here after losing against Marist and Fairfield, and our goal is to win out for the rest of the season. Keeping up with school work when you miss so much class is difficult and you really have to make the time management skill your best friend this time of year.

Wednesday 4/16
Senior game vs. Niagara. Being a senior, this was a pretty big deal. It was the last time that we as seniors (Lauren Walsh # 15, Whitney Card #21, Erica Nasca #22, and Emilee Flynn #9 and I) would play at home on Canisius turf. All of our families came in and we were acknowledged before the game. What made this day better was that we won the game 23-5 over our rivals.

Thursday 4/17
Today is Carly Quinn # 19's Birthday. We would leave today to play at Iona and Manhattan. I had 8:30 a.m. class and then went straight to practice from 10-12 a.m. We loaded the bus at 1, and went on our way to the hotel, stopping along the way at the Macaroni Grill for dinner.

Friday 4/18
9 a.m.- Breakfast. Team stretch, then boarded the bus to play Iona at 3 p.m. We won 10-8 in a back and forth game. We played well both defensively and offensively.

Saturday 4/19:
The freshmen were up at 8:45 to register for classes at 9 a.m., but the rest of us got to sleep in until 9:30. This was our day off. We had breakfast and a team stretch in the morning. We had some free time during the day to do some homework. We left at 3 p.m. for a mall, walked around and had dinner. At 7 p.m. we went to see the movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” which most all of us found hilarious!

Sunday 4/20:
We played Manhattan and won 15-12. This was the last game of our regular season. We were very happy to have won and clinched a spot in the MAAC Championship.

Monday 4/21:
Two more birthdays on the team: Chelsea Martinez # 23 and Brianne Laffey # 6! I had class at 10:30, a break to do homework and go to community service at the Lutheran Church Home and then another class at 2:30. Lauren Walsh and I had to talk to the Buffalo News about the season and take pictures at 5 p.m., and then we practiced 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Tuesday 4/22:
Class from 8:30-11:15 a.m., then practice from 3-5 p.m. Senate meeting at 7 p.m., then right after, Athletes for Athletes for Men's lacrosse. I came home to a lot of work and to get ready to leave early Thursday morning for the MAAC Championship!!!
