Canisius Will Host a First Round Game in the 2026 MAAC Championship

The Canisius women's lacrosse team clinched its spot in the 2026 MAAC Championship with a 14-11 victory over Mount St. Mary's in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday at Under Armour Stadium in Baltimore, Md.

The Golden Griffins improved to 11-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play as they secured home field advantage in the first round of the MAAC Championship. The Mount fell to 9-6 on the season and 5-2 in league play with the loss.

Senior Maggie Tifft and sophomore Katie Adams each turned in hat tricks to pace a Canisius offense that erupted for 14 goals on 23 shots. Senior Meg Hiltz added a goal and dished out a game-high three assists for four points. Defensively, junior Bridget Brown caused a team-best three caused turnovers while Tifft picked up a career-high five ground balls.

Brooke Molchanoff scored three goals and added an assist while teammate MK Allingham scored two goals and dished out three helpers for a game-high five points to lead the Mountaineers. Haylee Bittinger won a game-best nine draw controls as Mount St. Mary's won the battle in the circle, 17-10.

Canisius controlled play during the first part of the contest, using a pair of 4-1 spurts to open up an 8-2 lead midway through the second quarter. Tifft led the way for the Griffs during the early-game surge, completing the hat trick while five players chipped in one goal each.

Mount St. Mary's battled its way back into the contest, notching the final four goals of the first half to make it an 8-6 contest at the break.

The Griffs scored two of the first three goals of the second half to build a three-goal cushion, only to see the Mount respond with three straight tallies to knot the score at 10-10 early in the fourth.

Canisius reclaimed the lead less than two minutes later when Hiltz found sophomore Leah Pfeiffer who touched twine to push the Griffs back in front with 10:59 remaining.

Freshman Ella Forcucci provided some breathing room just 34 seconds after Pfeiffer's go-ahead marker with her first goal of the contest. The Mount pulled within one less than a minute later, but consecutive tallies from juniors Lauren Matyka and Maddie Fitzgerald less than two minutes apart closed out the scoring and secured the three-goal victory.
