McGreal Sets Record in Men?s Soccer 1-1 Draw

Men's Soccer Finishes 2008 Season at Saint Peter's and Manhattan

The Griffs will wrap up the 2008 season with a pair of road games at MAAC foes Saint Peter's and Manhattan. Canisius enters the weekend with a record 6-11-1 and is 2-5-o against conference opponents.

McGREAL FOUR POINTS SHY OF SCHOOL SCORING RECORD
? Junior Alan McGreal is on the verge on making school history.
? McGreal currently ranks third in the program's history with 71 career points, recording 24 goals and 23 assists.
? The junior needs just four points in the Griffs' final two games to earn his spot on top of the record book. He is four points shy of the school record of 75 career points, set by Gianfranco Gallo from 1986 to 1989.
? The Dublin, Ireland native also ranks third in the program's history with 24 career goals and third with 23 career assists.
? McGreal currently sits in first in the record book in career points per game and career assists per game. He holds a commanding 0.14 lead in points per game, averaging 1.31. He also has a Canisius-best 0.43 assists per game.
? McGreal ranks second in school history with 0.44 goals per game, just 0.1 shy of the Canisius standard.
? Against Bucknell, McGreal posted two assists and became just the eighth player in school history to post his 50th career point.

PATTERSON AND POWELL HAVING CAREER YEARS
? Seniors Brian Patterson and Eddie Powell have added offense to their resumes this season.
? Both student-athletes are playing more of an offensive role this season and have contributed to the team's success. Powell ranks second on the team with five goals, while Patterson is tied for third with four scores. Both players are tied for third in points with 10.
? Neither player had scored a goal prior to this season. Powell had posted two assists in his first 20 games with the Griffs, while Patterson did not record a single point in his first 33 games at Canisius. In fact, Patterson did not register a single shot during the 2007 season and had only posted six shots during his first two seasons.
? Patterson earned UB Fall Classic All-Tournament Team honors, posting three points during the championship run.

MILLER AND SEYMOUR ANCHOR THE GRIFFS IN GOAL
? Freshman goalies Adam Miller and Luke Seymour have been key players for the Griffs this season in the goal, showing steady improvement during the year.
? Miller has stopped at least six shots in four of his previous five games. He did not reach the six-save plateau once in his first six games.
? Miller recorded his first collegiate shutout against Marist. He made six-saves, including one on a penalty kick, in a 3-0 victory over the Red Foxes. Miller then recorded eight saves in a 2-0 setback to Siena. His eight stops topped his previous career high by two.
? Since returning from injury, Seymour is 3-1-0 with the lone loss coming against 12th-ranked Loyola.
? In his first game back, Seymour matched a career high with six saves to help lead the Griffs to a victory over Duquesne. During his run, he also posted his first collegiate shutout, posting three saves in a 3-0 win over Rider.
? Seymour was also honored by being named to the UB Fall Classic All-Tournament Team, helping lead the Griffs to the title.
? For the season, Seymour has posted a GAA of 2.09 and a save percentage of .609, while Miller has registered a GAA of 2.62 and a save percentage of .650.

CANISIUS - SAINT PETER'S SERIES HISTORY
? The Griffs hold an 11-7-1 advantage in a series that dates back to the 1990 season.
? The home team has dominated the series as of late. Since 2001, the team playing at home is 6-0-1. Canisius was the last team to win on the road, defeating the Peacocks 1-0 during the 2000 season.
? Canisius defeated Saint Peter's last season, 4-3, in overtime. Sean Vella scored 2:10 into the extra session off a pass from Alan McGreal. McGreal totaled a career-bet three assists in the game and added a goal of his own. Simba Aberdeen and Pablo Lopez also added goals against the Peacocks, who would earn an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament in 2007.

ABOUT THE PEACOCKS
? Saint Peter's enters the weekend in a three-way tie for fourth place in the MAAC standings. The Peacocks are currently 8-7-2 on the season and 4-3-0 in conference play.
? Udi Naim leads the Peacocks' offense this season, posting 20 points, eight goals and four assists. Rumen Kerekov is tied for the team lead with eight goals and is second with 17 points. Chris DeAbreu leads the Peacocks with eight assists.
? Hernando Santamaria and Matthew Lawlor have split time in goal this season. Santamaria owns a GAA of 1.36 and a save percentage of .800, while Lawlor has posted a GAA of 1.53 and a save percentage of .633.

CANISIUS - MANHATTAN SERIES HISTORY
? Manhattan holds a 9-7-2 advantage in the series but Canisius has controlled the series as of late.
? The Griffs have won the last four meetings and is unbeaten in the last five games.
? Canisius rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit last season to defeat the Jaspers 2-1 in Buffalo. Alan McGreal and Simba Aberdeen tallied goals to lift the Griffs to victory.

ABOUT THE JASPERS
? Manhattan defeated Rider last weekend for its first MAAC win and ended a seven-game unbeaten streak. The Jaspers enter the weekend with a record of 3-13-1 and 1-5-1 in MAAC play.
? Fernando Londono has posted a team-best 15 points this season, scoring seven goals and adding an assist. Thomas Bandov ranks second on the team with 11 points and five goals, while Nicholas Patrikis leads the Jaspers with five assists.
? Randall Brobson and John Ciano have split time in goal for the Jaspers. Brobson has recorded a GAA of 2.22 and a save percentage of .701, while Ciano has posted a GAA of 2.38 and a save percentage of .679.
