The Canisius men's soccer team lost a MAAC contest at Siena on Sunday, falling to the Saints, 2-0. The Griffs are now 6-9-1 on the season and 2-3-0 in MAAC play, while Siena improves to 7-6-1 and 5-1-0 in conference play.
The Griffs' Adam Miller (Reading, Pa.) turned in his second-straight solid game in goal, recording a career-best eight saves. Miller stopped a previous-high six shots in the Griffs' 3-0 victory over Marist on Friday, earning his first career shutout.
The Saints took the advantage with a goal in the game's 15th minute. Anthony Tagliaferri scored off a rebound for his first tally of the season. Sebastien Anzevui stretched Siena's lead to two with a goal in the 56th minute.
Canisius' best opportunity to get on the scoreboard came in the 79th minute when the Griffs were awarded a penalty kick. Junior Alan McGreal (Dublin, Ireland) took the kick but Siena's Steve Skonieczny recorded a save. Skonieczny stopped six shots in total to earn the victory.
Canisius returns home next weekend, hosting Iona and Fairfield. The Griffs will play the Gaels on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Stags on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Game Notes: McGreal had connected on all three of his previous penalty kicks ... The loss snapped Canisius' three-game winning streak in the series ... Miller had previously recorded six saves on two occasions.
