Rider Rolls Past Men's Basketball

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Rider University used an 20-2 run over 5:54 midway through the first half to pull away from Canisius College, as the Broncs posted a 102-51 win over the Golden Griffins Sunday afternoon in Lawrenceville, N.J. The 51-point loss is the worst conference defeat in school history for Canisius and drops the team to 2-12 overall and 0-4 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Broncs improved to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the MAAC with the victory. The 102-point effort marks the first time Rider has posted 100-plus points in regulation since the 1997-98 campaign.

Rider had four players score in double figures in the win, which stands as the school's largest win since the 1963-64 season when the Broncs defeated Hunter College by a 103-50 count at home. Lamar Johnson led the way with a team-high 21 points off the bench for Rider after he went a perfect 6-for-6 from 3-point range. Senior forward Jason Thompson was good for 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Ryan Thompson and Kamron Warner added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

For Canisius, freshman Elton Frazier (pictured) scored a career-high 22 points in the loss as no other player Griff tallied more than five points. For the game, Canisius shot 31.5 percent from the field and 25 percent from 3-point land, while the Broncs hit on 52.5 percent of their tries from the floor and 45.5 percent of their 3-point attempts.

The Griffs will return home to open a three-game MAAC homestand, Jan. 11, as the team plays host to Manhattan in the Koessler Athletic Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Game Notes: Rider has now won 11-straight over the Griffs and leads the all-time series by a 22-4 count... Fourteen of Elton Frazier's 22 points came in the second half... Junior guard Bob Bevilacqua scored his first Division I points with a jumper late in the game.
