Women's Soccer Hosts Youngstown State on Sunday

The Canisius College women's soccer returns to the Demske Sports Complex for its final non-conference game of the season. The Griffs host Youngstown State on Sunday at noon.

ABOUT THE GRIFFS
Canisius has won two of its last thee games and enters the contest with a 2-5-1 record. Senior Amanda Janosky (right) has led the Canisius offense, posting seven points on three goals and one assist. Both her seven points and three goals rank second in the MAAC. Senior Stephanie Karst ranks second on the team with five points on two goals and one assist, while sophomore Sylvia Kowalski has added two goals for the Griffs.

Sophomore Daniella Pettinari has anchored the Canisius defense throughout the season. Entering the weekend, Pettinari ranked fourth in the MAAC with a goals against average of 1.25 and fifth with a save percentage of .780.

LAST TIME OUT
Kowalski tallied her second goal of the season but Fairleigh Dickinson edged the Griffs, 2-1, on Friday to snap Canisius' two-game winning streak. Meagan Jones recorded her first point of the season, posting the assist on Kowalski's goal. Pettinari and sophomore Lesley Ivinac split time in goal, totaling four saves for the Griffs.

ABOUT THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State entered the weekend with a 1-8-0 record and is led by freshman sensation Lauren Brennan. Brennan has totaled 16 points in her rookie campaign on seven goals and two assists. She has registered a point on nine of the Penguins' 10 goals. Junior Carrie Wack is second on the team with four points on one goal and two assists. Sophomore Caitlin Bodzioney has seen a majority of the time in goal, recording a goals against average of 1.73 and a save percentage of .829.

ABOUT THE SERIES
The Griffs and Penguins have met on seven previous occasions, with Canisius owning a slight 4-3-0 advantage in the series. Youngstown State defeated the Griffs, 1-0, in Ohio last season but Canisius has won all three meeting in Buffalo, including a 2-0 decision in 2005. Janosky and Rebecca Shupe both tallied goals to lead the Griffs to victory.

UP NEXT
Canisius remains home next weekend as the Griffs open conference play at the Demske Sports Complex. Canisius hosts Fairfield on Friday at 7 p.m. and will then square off against Iona on Sunday at noon.
