Women's Soccer Posts 2-1 Victory Over Cleveland State

The Canisius College women's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2007 season, posting a 2-1 victory against Cleveland State. Senior Amanda Janosky led the Griffs' offense, posting a goal and an assist.

Canisius (1-4-1) jumped to the early advantage. Janosky scored her second goal of the season just 12 minutes and 31 seconds into the game. The Griffs held the lead until the 73rd minute, when Cleveland State's Shayna Back knotted the game.

The Griffs quickly rebounded. Janosky setup senior Stephanie Karst (right) for the game-winning goal in the 76th minute. The Canisius defense did not allow Cleveland State (2-5-0) another shot during the remainder of the game to preserve the victory.

Sophomore Daniella Pettinari (Hilton, N.Y.) stopped three shots in goal to earn her first collegiate victory.

The Griffs return to action on Friday, squaring off against St. Bonaventure. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.

Game Notes: The Griffs outshot Cleveland State, 12-6... Canisius won its first road game since Oct. 23, 2005 (2-0 at Manhattan)... Sunday was Amanda Janosky's first three-point game since Oct. 27, 2005, when she had a goal and an assist against Saint Peter's in the 2005 MAAC Tournament.
