Women's Soccer Falls to Central Michigan, 1-0

The Golden Griffins women's soccer team lost a hard-fought battle with Central Michigan, 1-0, on Friday afternoon. The Chippewas scored late in the contest to earn the victory over the Griffs.

Amanda Waugh scored the game's only goal with 6:30 minutes remaining in regulation. Sophomore goalkeeper Daniella Pettinari had a strong game for the Griffs, recording a career-best eight saves to keep Canisius in the game.

The Chippewas (3-2-0) held a 28-5 advantage in shots. Senior Amanda Janosky (right) recorded four of the Griffs' five shots with sophomore Meagan Jones registering the other Canisius shot. Central Michigan goalkeeper Shay Mannino stopped all three shots on goal to post her first complete shutout of the season.

Canisius (0-4-1) returns to action on Sunday, squaring off at Cleveland State. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Game Notes: Central Michigan's goal ended Canisius' season-long scoreless streak of 157:03 ... The Griffs previous long was 133:20 ... Pettinari's previously posted a career-best seven saves in back-to-back games against Duquesne and Buffalo to open the 2007 season ... Canisius has allowed only six goals through five games during the 2007 season, matching the second-best defensive start in school history ... The Griffs allowed only five goals through the first five games of the 1986 season ... Canisius has lost its last three game by identical 1-0 scores.
