Detroit freshman Christopher Mulcahy scored a goal and added an assist and sophmore goalkeeper Bryan Kloss posted his first shutout of the season as the Titans downed Canisius 4-0 Friday afternoon in the first match of the Falcon Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio. The win improves Detroit to 1-2-2 in 2007, while the Golden Griffins slipped to 0-3-0 with the loss.
Junior transfer Eddie Powell (pictured) had two shots on goal as the Griffs outshot the Titans by a count of 11-9. Canisius goalkeeper Adam Catley recorded a save in 90 minutes of action.
Detroit jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the game's 12th minutes after Ken Simon fired a rebound shot past Catley for his second tally of the season. Detroit added to its lead in the 35th minute, and then with a 3-0 lead late in the game, Mulcahy put the contest away for good with his first collegiate goal in the 89th minute.
Canisius will return to action Sunday, when the team meets host Bowling Green in the final match of the Falcon Invitational. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
Game Notes: The game with Detroit starts a stretch where the Griffs are scheduled to play five-straight away from Buffalo... Friday's game was the Blue and Gold's first contest since Sept. 2, when the team hosted Robert Morris... The start for Eddie Powell was his first in a Canisius uniform.
