Women's Soccer Falls to Duquesne

The Canisius College women's soccer team opened its 27th season of play, falling to Duquesne, 2-0.

Sophomore Daniella Pettinari (Hilton, N.Y.) stopped a career-best seven shots in goal. Pettinari was making just her second career start for the Griffs.

The two teams battled to a scoreless first half. Pettinari recorded three saves in the first half to keep the Griffs tied. Duquesne scored 4:38 into the second half to take the lead. The Dukes then added an insurance goal with 11:30 remaining to seal the 2-0 victory.

Canisius returns home to square off against Buffalo on Sunday. Game time for the Griffs' home-opener at the Demske Sports Complex is set for noon.

Game Notes: Four players made their collegiate debut for Canisius College (Camille Blum, Laura Ellis, Jessica Leemans and Kasey Makowski) ... Blum and Ellis both started in their first career game ... Senior Amanda Janosky (Derby, N.Y.) and Makowski led Canisius with two shots each ... Duquesne improved to 5-0-1 all-time against the Griffs.
