Lindsay Garbacz Named MAAC Pitcher of the Week

Canisius College pitcher Lindsay Garbacz (right) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Week Monday after she went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two starts last week against Niagara and Marist. The weekly honor is the second of the 2007 season for Garbacz and marks the sixth time this year a member of the Golden Griffins' pitching staff has recognized by the league for their work in the circle.

The 5-foot-9 junior allowed just one run on five hits while striking out 18 batters in 14 innings or work as the Griffs recorded a 3-1 record in two home MAAC doubleheaders. In the team's 4-0 win over Marist April 29, Garbacz went the distance and fanned a season-high 11 en route to her first complete-game shutout victory of the season. In her seven appearances against MAAC opponents this season, she's 4-1 with a 0.39 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 36 innings, with league batters hitting just .121 against her.

Canisius enters its final week of the 2007 regular season with a 22-19 overall mark and a 10-4 record in MAAC play. The Griffs have won three straight and 12 of their last 14 outings, with the doubleheader sweep of Marist April 29, at home securing the program's 17th trip to the MAAC Tournament since the 1990 season. The Blue and Gold is set to host Youngstown State May 1, at home for a non-conference doubleheader before traveling to Siena May 5, for the final MAAC twin bill of the year. The 2007 MAAC Tournament will be held May 10-12, at DeLuca Field in Stratford, Conn.
