Robert Morris Shoots Down Men's Hoops

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Four Robert Morris starters tallied double figure points, and the host Colonials drained 16 3-point field goals en route to a 91-73 win over Canisius College Wednesday night in the Sewall Center in Moon Township, Pa. The win improved Robert Morris to 7-4 this year, while the Golden Griffins slipped to 1-9 with the loss.

Robert Morris sophomore Jimmy Langhurst led all scorers with a game-high 21 points after he went 7-for-10 from long range in 26 minutes of action. Langhurst started out strong, making three of his seven treys in the game's first 5:29. Junior Jeremy Chappell had 19 points to go with three assists and teammate Tony Lee posted a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 10 assists. For the game, Robert Morris shot 47.1 percent from behind the 3-point arc, with the 16 made 3-pointers tying a Canisius opponent record for treys in a game.

“That shooting performance was pretty reminiscent of what we did to Coastal Carolina on Saturday,” Canisius head coach Tom Parrotta said. “We came out and played zone because they can get to the basket, and they shot it over us. It was kind of like pick-your-poison.”

For Canisius, Frank Turner posted 17 points, six rebounds and six assists with senior forward Pawel Malesa posting 17 points of his own after he went 6-for-13 from the field and 5-for-10 from long range. As a team, Canisius shot 47.3 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from 3-point land, but RMU shot 51.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from three, while converting 16 Canisius turnovers into 20 points.

The Griffs will return to action Saturday, Dec. 22, when the team plays host to No. 24 West Virginia. Tip off at HSBC Arena is set for 4 p.m.

Game Notes: Robert Morris now leads the all-time series between these two schools by a 6-1 count... Jovan Robinson added 13 points to the Griffs' effort... Both teams went without a blocked shot in the game.
