Janosky Leads Women's Soccer to Victory

Senior Amanda Janosky (right) tallied a career-best four goals to help the Canisius College women's soccer team cruise to a 7-1 victory over Saint Peter's. With the win, the Griffs improved to 5-7-1 and 2-2-0 in MAAC play.

Janosky once again anchored the Griffs offense and helped lead the team to victory. Her four-goal total is a career high and is the most by a Canisius student-athlete since Jen Gwizdowski also posted four goals on October 31, 2001.

With her four goals and eight points, Janosky continued her climb up the Canisius record book. She now ranks fourth in school history with 26 career goals and eighth with 59 career points. Janosky currently leads the team with 10 goals and 22 points, the eighth and 12th highest totals, respectively, in school history.

Three other players registered goals as the Griffs posted the most team goals since a 10-0 victory against St. Francis (Pa.) on October 2, 1994. Senior Stephanie Karst posted four points on one goal and three assists. Freshman Laura Ellis recorded her first collegiate goal and added an assist. Sophomore Sylvia Kowalski also added a goal to round out the scoring for the Griffs.

Sophomore Kathleen DiPasquale and freshman Kasey Makowski each posted assists to help pace the Canisius offense.

Sophomores Daniella Pettinari and Lesley Ivinac split time in goal to lead the Griffs' defense. Pettinari stopped one shot in the first half, while Ivinac recorded four second-half saves.

The Griffs wasted no time jumping to an early advantage against the Peahens (1-12-0, 0-4-0 MAAC). Janosky tallied her first goal of the afternoon just 5:13 into the game and Karst scored the game-winning goal just 35 seconds later. Ellis added a goal 9:13 into the half and after a Saint Peter's goal, Canisius tallied its fourth goal of the half when Janosky fired the ball in just 18:49 into the game.

Canisius continued its offensive outburst in the second half. Kowalski scored her fourth goal of the afternoon 8:02 into the half and Janosky scored her final two goals of the game in the next 10 minutes.

The Griffs dominated the game in all aspects. Canisius outshot Saint Peter's, 25-11 and held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-3.

Canisius continues conference action on Friday, squaring off against Loyola. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.

Game Notes: Janosky has recorded eight goals in her last four games against Saint Peter's ... Karst posted her sixth career game-winning goal, tied for second all-time in the program's record book ... Makowski has tallied four assists in her last five games ... Ivinac's four saves were the first of her career.
