Two Women's Lacrosse Players Named to Canadian U-19 Team

Current Canisius College freshman Alison Rusak (Orangeville, Ont.) and incoming freshman Carly Quinn (Orangeville, Ont.) were named to the 2007 Canadian U-19 Women's Field Lacrosse Team earlier this month. The team of 20 will represent Canada at the 2007 IFWLA U-19 World Championships in Peterborough, Ont. Aug. 4-11.

“It's a great honor for these two student-athletes to represent their country on the national level,” Canisius coach Scott Teeter said.
“Alison and Carly continue our strong recruiting in Canada, which has helped build our roster in pursuit of a MAAC championship.” Rusak played for the Orangeville Northmen club team and was named the U-15 Most Valuable Graduating Player in 2002 and the U-19 Most Valuable Rookie in 2003. Quinn ranked 10th in the 2006 Ontario U-19 Women's Field Lacrosse League with 45 points and will be a member of the Blue and Gold starting with the 2008 season.

Team Canada recently took a 16-day tour to Australia and played in the Southern Crosse Tournament and faced the Victoria State Squad in four test matches.

The IFLWA (International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations) limits countries to a final roster of 18 members, which will be announced following a training camp and exhibition games at Trent University in Peterborough in May.

The process started with 39 players on the initial roster in March 2006. The squad was reduced to 27 players in July 2006 and then reduced to current total of 20 in January.

Junior Whitney Card (Alton, Ont.) and sophomores Bobbi Jo Harris (Beaverton, Ont.) and Awehiyo Thomas (Six Nations, Ont.) played in the 2003 World Championships for the Team Canada squad that won the bronze medal.
