Benson Named To MAAC All-Rookie Team

BUFFALO, N.Y. ? Canisius College women's soccer freshman Lindsay Benson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) was named to the 2004 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team as selected by the league's 10 head coaches.

Benson led the Griffs with five goals this season and started in all 16 of the Blue and Gold's contests. Benson also scored the game-winning goal in the Griffs' 2-1 victory over Saint Peter's on Oct. 27. Benson led Canisius with 27 shots and 11 shots on goal.
Canisius also placed six members on the MAAC All-Academic Team. Senior Carrie Wilhelm (West Seneca, N.Y.), juniors Lindsay Guarino (Derby, N.Y.), Cathleen Mulvey (Tecumseh, Ont.) and Marissa Ponzi (Lewiston, N.Y.) and sophomores Christina Cullen (South Windsor, Conn.) and Jenna Gage (East Amherst, N.Y.) were honored for their excellence in the classroom.

Canisius finished the 2004 season with a 2-14-0 overall mark and a 1-8-0 record in the MAAC.
