Last-Minute Goal Lift Saint Peter's To Win Over Women's Soccer

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Saint Peter's Joan Porter scored with 53 seconds remaining in the game to lift the host Peahens to a 2-1 victory over visiting Canisius College Sunday afternoon in MAAC Soccer League action at Jaroschak Field. Canisius falls to 1-12-1 overall, 0-7-0 in the MAAC. Saint Peter's improves to 2-15-1, 1-5-1 in the MAAC.

Saint Peter's took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute as Laura Gubitosa converted a penalty kick after being taken down by Canisius' Crystal Wall. The Griffs knotted the game in the 64th minute as sophomore Karli Sullivan (Victor, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal. Sullivan put the ball past Peahen goalie Andrea Kovalcik as she came off her line to clear the ball.

Porter tallied her game-winning goal as Canisius freshman keeper Jenna Gage (East Amherst, N.Y.) could not control a shot and Porter pounced on the rebound. Gage finished the game with 11 saves for the Griffs, while Kovalcik made five saves for Saint Peter's.
Canisius will close out the 2003 season with a pair of home game this weekend. The Griffs face Loyola on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and will host Senior Day activities on Sunday against Rider at 12:00 p.m.
