Mary Schelp begins her second season as the assistant volleyball coach for the Canisius College volleyball program in 2002. A four-year letter winner in volleyball and basketball at Stony Brook University, Schelp made her coaching debut last season. She is responsible for daily practice, on-floor instruction, recruiting and film exchange, while assisting in the day-to-day operations of the volleyball office.
In 1999, Schelp was named Most Valuable Payer for the Seawolves and selected to the All-NECC first team. She was also named Stony Brook's Female Athlete of the Year in 1999.
Schelp was a three-time all-county pick while at Herricks High School on Long Island and an all-state selection in her senior year. She guided her team to the Nassau County Championship in 1995 and was named Nassau County MVP. As coach of the Long Island Power 16-1 club volleyball team in 2001, she directed the team to a berth in the Junior Olympics in Salt Lake City. In the spring of 2002, Schelp was an assistant coach with the Kaepa Cheetah 16-1 club volleyball team.
Mary lives in Buffalo and is currently pursuing her master's degree in elementary education.
