Erin Thornton enters her 11th year as an assistant athletic trainer at Canisius College. She is the primary athletic trainer for the women's basketball and women's soccer programs while also acting as the program director for the CAATE Accredited Undergraduate Athletic Training Education Program at the College.
Thornton returned to her alma mater after two years at St. Bonaventure University, where her primary responsibilities were with the women's basketball, women's soccer and softball teams.
Prior to her tenure at St. Bonaventure, Thornton served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Ohio University. While working in Athens, Ohio, she earned a master's degree of science in athletic training education in 2006.
During her stint with the Bobcats, she covered men's and women's rugby and men's and women's lacrosse at the club level. Along with her duties on the field, the West Seneca, N.Y., native also conducted evaluations and rehabs for all of the 32 club sports teams and served as a teacher's assistant and co-instructor in Ohio's undergraduate sports medicine program.
Thornton is currently an active member of the National Athletic and New York State Athletic Trainers Associations and is a Red Cross Certified CPR/AED instructor.
Thornton married her husband, Derick, in June 2017. The couple resides in the Buffalo area.
