Biography

2006-07: Missed the entire season with a leg injury. Named to the MAAC All-Academic Honor Roll for her work in the classroom. Served as one of the team's representatives on the Canisius Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

2005-06: Saw action in eight games. Went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line and was credited with three rebounds. Had a season-high two points in the team's home win over Siena Jan. 5. Had two rebounds at home against Cornell Nov. 23. Also dished out an assist in the team's win over Cornell. Was credited with one steal against Niagara at home Jan. 17. Played in a season-high 12 minutes against Cornell. Was honored for her work in the classroom by being named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

2004-05: Played in 28 games as a freshman and averaged 7.6 minutes per game. Her 28 games played tied her with fellow freshman JJ Williams for the team's lead in games played by a rookie. Averaged 1.8 points per game. Scored a career-high 14 points in the team's road win at Marist Jan. 8, after going 4-for-5 from the field and 2-for-3 from behind the three-point line. Scored her first collegiate points in her first game against St. John's Nov. 20. Had a career-high three rebounds in the team's win at Colgate Nov. 27, then matched that mark in the Griffs' road win at Manhattan Jan. 10. Went 18-for-19 (94.7 percent) from the charity stripe to lead the team. Played in a career-high 17 minutes in a home win over Iona Jan. 14.

Before Canisius: Won four varsity letters at Moon Area High School. Named the WPIAL Class AAA Player of the Year after her senior season with her 16.4 points per game scoring average. Was honored as one of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's "Fabulous Five". Closed out her career at Moon Area ranked third in all-time scoring and first in career three-point field goals made. Holds the school record for most three point baskets in a season and in a game. Helped lead the 2003-04 squad to the PIAA Class AAA semifinals. Was a team captain two years in a row, and was a member of the school's best team in 2002-03, when the Tigers posted 26 wins and made an appearance in the PIAA Class AAA Elite 8. Was selected as the Western Pennsylvania Freshman of the Year after the 2000-01 campaign.

Personal: The daughter of Mark and Carol Capuano, Nia is a physical education major at Canisius. Her father Mark was an All-ACC defensive end at North Carolina State and is currently the head football coach at Moon Area High School. Lists golfing, shopping and art as her hobbies.
