Biography
2008-09: Appeared in all 33 games and made 28 starts... Averaged 2.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per game... Only player in program history to play on two teams that won 20 games at the Division I level... Had a season-high seven rebounds against Niagara on Feb. 28... Made 14 of final 16 free throws... Made first career 3-pointer against Siena on Feb. 8... Played a career-high 32 minutes at Rhode Island... Had a season-high seven points against Youngstown State and also had a career-high four steals in the game
2007-08: Set career highs in minutes played, starts, rebounds, assists, free throw percentage and points... Started 22 games in 2007-08 after coming into the season with eight career starts, which all came in 2006-07... Averaged career-high 19.1 minutes per game... Had career-high 18 points and nine rebounds in 26 minutes against Rider Dec. 7... Finished fourth on the team in free-throw percentage (75.4)... Set career high with eight made free throws against Wright State Dec. 1 and also had career-high two steals... Led team with seven rebounds in 20 minutes at Notre Dame Nov. 27... Played 24 minutes despite suffering a cut above right eye that required six stitches in 70-62 win over Buffalo (Nov. 24)... Served as one of the team’s representatives on the Canisius Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
2006-07: After sitting out for the 2005-06 season, Williams returned to play in 27 games. Made eight starts, with her first career start coming Feb. 1, at Loyola. Averaged 10.6 minutes per game, highlighted by her career best 22 minutes of action Feb. 18, in the team's win over Saint Peter's. Averaged 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. Scored a career-high 10 points at Colgate Nov. 14, after she went 3-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Scored at least two points in six of the team's last seven games. Matched a season-high with four rebounds against four different teams. Shot 45.5 percent (25-for-55) from the floor and 61.3 percent (19-for-31) from the charity stripe. Matched a career-high with two assists in the Griffs' win at Loyola Feb. 23. Served as one of the team's representatives on the Canisius Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
2005-06: Redshirted the 2005-06 season.
2004-05: Played in 28 of the team's 31 games, which tied her with teammate Nia Capuano for the team lead in games played by freshmen. Averaged 2.1 points and 2.5 rebounds. Scored a career-high nine points and pulled down a season best eight boards in the team's overtime win at Rider Feb. 11. Also had season highs in assists (two) and steals (three) in the game at Rider. Played a season-high 20 minutes and scored four points in the Griffs' NCAA Tournament game against Duke March 20. Scored her first collegiate points against St. John's in the season opener Nov. 20. Played 10 minutes and pulled down five rebounds in Canisius' game at Cornell Nov. 29. Finished the season shooting 47.5 percent (21-for-46) from the floor. Averaged 8.9 minutes per game in her first season as a Canisius player.
Before Canisius: Won two varsity letters at Lansing High School after playing her freshman and sophomore years at Mill River High School in Clarendon, Vt. Helped lead Lansing to an undefeated season in 2003-04. Averaged 19 points, 13 rebounds and 3.4 steals in her senior season. Was named first-team all-league after her junior and senior seasons and league MVP after leading the conference in points, rebounds and steals in her senior campaign. Was also named all-state after the 2003-04 campaign. A two-time member of the Watkins All-Tournament team, she was selected as the county's MVP as a senior. Won three varsity letters in softball as well.
Personal: The daughter of Gary and Madelyn Williams, JJ is a political science major at Canisius. Has one brother Taynton, and one sister, Katie. Her father Gary played football at Alfred State University and her brother played basketball at Alfred. Her aunt, Jeanne Falzone, played basketball at Lehigh University and scored over 1,000-career points in her playing days. Lists singing, fishing and wrapping Christmas gifts as her hobbies.
