Biography

Notes: Will serve as one of the team's captains again this season. One of the better low post defensive players in the MAAC.

Junior Season: Played in all 28 Canisius games last season, starting in 24 of them. Poured in a career high 26 points in the Griffs' 96-71 win over local rival Niagara Feb. 14. Was credited with her first career double-double in the Blue and Gold's loss at Austin Peay Dec. 29, with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Had a double-double in back to back games with 14 points and 10 boards against Marist (Jan. 31) and 20 points and 10 pulls versus Siena (Feb. 2). Was named the CHAMPS Student Athlete of the Week Feb. 20, as voted on by fans of Canisius at gogriffs.com. Picked up a career-high four steals in the team's loss at Iona Feb. 9. Led the team with a .520 field goal percentage (115-221). Ended the season averaging 10.1 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per contest. Was named the Charles Ippolito "Unsung Hero" Award winner, as voted on by her teammates.

Sophomore Season: Averaged 7.6 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game. Led the team by shooting 49.7 percent from the field. Saw action in all 28 games. Scored in double-digits eight times. Led the team in rebounding six times. Netted a then career-high 17 points in loss to Siena on Dec 8. Pulled down a career-high 14 boards in a loss at Louisville on Dec. 20. Named team's Best Defensive Player and Most Improved Player.

Freshman Season: Saw time in 12 contests. Averaged 0.8 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

Before Canisius: Was a three-year letter winner at Rindge & Latin High. Was named all-conference three years in a row. Served as the team's captain her senior season. Also won two letters playing volleyball.

Personal: The daughter of Hugh Mackay and Dennie Butler-Mackay, Jessica is a communications major at Canisius. Her father Mario Butler played professional basketball in Puerto Rico. Graduated from the same high school as former NBA star Patrick Ewing and actors Matt Damon and Ben Afflack.
