Rachelle "Rock-O" Matthys is entering her third season on head coach Scott Hemer's staff.
Rock-O aids in the coaching of the Golden Griffin guards with fellow assistant Jazz Weaver, while also scouting opposing teams and implementing game plans.
Matthys arrived on Main Street after four years as the head coach at Medaille College. While at the helm, she led the Mavericks to 42 overall victories, with 35 coming against Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opponents. In addition to leading the Medaille program to three post-season berths, she also coached the AMCC Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and five All-AMCC members. The Mavericks advanced to the AMCC Championship game in 2017-18, the school’s first championship game appearance since 2011-12, under Matthys.
While at Medaille, Rachelle coached Team USA during the United World Games in 2015 and 2016. Her teams earned silver and bronze medals during her two summers, and she was named Student-Athlete World Coach of the Year in 2015.
Matthys also has coaching experience overseas with Girls Basketball Regio and Osnabruck SportsClub in Germany, Durham University Schools Programme in England and Active After School Communities in Australia.
Matthys played collegiately for the University at Buffalo from 2005-09 under current Golden Griffins assistant coach Linda Hill-MacDonald. While at Buffalo, Matthys was a four-year letterwinner and co-captain. She went on to play professionally in Australia, England and Germany, highlighted by a 2011 Championship Title for the OKE Panthers of Germany.
