Canisius women’s basketball head coach Sahar Nusseibeh expanded her staff as she announced former Quinnipiac women’s basketball player, Cat Almeida, as the program’s new director of basketball operations on Jan. 18, 2023.

"We are thrilled to welcome Cat to the Griffs Family,” Nusseibeh said. “I have known Cat since she was in high school, trying to recruit her when I was at Manhattan. When the opportunity presented itself to have her join us as our graduate assistant, I knew we had to make it happen. Cat's personality, her work ethic, and her knowledge of what it takes to assist in a successful basketball program are all tremendous assets that bring instant value!”

In her new role, Almeida will handle a variety of duties within the program, such as organizing team travel and a multitude of administrative roles.

“Starting this new chapter of my life at Canisius is exciting because it allows me to stay with college basketball while looking at the game through a new lens,” Almeida said. “I’m so happy and proud to be a Golden Griffin.”

During her three seasons with the Bobcats, Almeida appeared in over 30 contests while earning MAAC All-Academic honors during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. The Clifton Park, N.Y., native was also a member of the 2021-22 squad which qualified for the WNIT and defeated Rhode Island, 61-50, in the opening round.

Almeida earned her undergraduate degree in journalism and will be pursuing her master’s in business administration while on Main Street.
