Biography

Notes: Zak became the first player in school history to be named the MAAC Tournament MVP after helping lead the Golden Griffins to the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance. One of the league's top point guards, Zak enters the season needing 191 points and 149 assists to become the third player in program history to score 1,000 career points and dish out 500 career assists.

2004-2005: Played in and started all 31 games last season for Canisius. Was honored as a first team All-MAAC selection by the league's coaches, the fourth-straight year Canisius has had a player on the conference's top postseason all-star unit. Also honored as a Preseason All-MAAC First Team selection as well. Was honored as the MAAC Tournament MVP after averaging 14.3 points and 2.3 assists in three tournament games. Averaged 12.9 points per game, which was tops on the team and ranked 10th best in the conference. Led the team in scoring in 11 times. Scored a season-high 23 points in a loss at Saint Peter's. Recorded double figures in the scoring column in five of the team's last six games. Dished out a team-high 139 assists, highlighted by a season-high 11 assists in the Griffs' home win over Fairfield Jan. 16. Recorded her third career double-double (points and assists) against Fairfield Jan. 16, with 13 points and 11 assists. Became just the 11th player in school history to pass the 300-career assist mark with her third assist against Saint Peter's Jan. 30. Her 4.5 assists per game average ranked her fourth in the league. Shot 74.5 percent (82-for-110) from the charity stripe, which ranked 13th in the MAAC among players with at least two attempts per game. Ranked sixth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, shooting a career-best 39.7 percent (56-for-141) from behind the arc. Pulled down a career-high eight rebounds in the Griffs' win over Fairfield. Played a career-high 41 minutes in an overtime win at Rider Feb. 11. Led the team in minutes played, averaging 33.9 minutes per game. Served as a team co-captain.

2003-2004: Played in and started all 30 games as a sophomore. Posted her first career double-double in her first career start Nov. 21, at Buffalo with 18 points and 10 assists. Also had 18 points and 10 assists in the team's win at Niagara in the regular season finale Feb. 29. Scored a career-high 26 points in a win at Stetson Dec. 30. Registered double figures in the scoring column in 18 of 30 Canisius games. Had a career-high 12 assists in a win over Iona Jan. 26. Led the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with her 5.7 assists per game which ranked 26th in the nation. Played in a season-high 38 minutes in a loss to Iona Feb. 16. Was named the MAAC Player of the Week Nov. 24, after her double-double at Buffalo in the season opener. Became just the third player in program history to be named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team after averaging 17 points, 6.3 assists and 3.5 rebounds in three games.

2002-2003: Played in 21 games after overcoming an early season back injury. Averaged 2.6 points and two assists per game. Scored seven points and dished out a season-best six assists in Canisius' win over Saint Peter's in the 2003 MAAC Tournament. Played in a season-high 24 minutes in the Griffs' win over Iona March 6, at the MAAC Tournament.

Before Canisius: A two-time, All-New Jersey selection in 2000 and 2001. Was named All-Shore Conference and All-Ocean County three times. Was chosen as the Asbury Park Press Sullivan Award winner, given annually to the top female athlete in the Shore Conference. Scored over 1,000 career points in high school for the Toms River South Indians.

Personal: The daughter of Don Zak and Cindy Trujillo , Becky is a physical education major. Played her freshman season with her twin sister Lisa, who transferred to Division III Richard Stockton College prior to the start of the 2003-04 season. Her older sister Jennifer played women's lacrosse at Northeastern. Has one brother, Brian. Her father Don is a 1975 graduate of Canisius College.
