Veteran coach Gary Bruce is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Canisius men’s soccer program.
Bruce served as an assistant coach for the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League Championship winning Western New York Flash, working with players from eight different national teams and some of the best female athletes in the world, including 2016 NWSL MVP and Golden Boot winner, Lynn Williams.
In 2017, Bruce became the Head Coach of Flash's United Women’s Soccer team. He continues to be active with the youngest ages for The Flash Academy, serving as the Junior Academy Director of Coaching.
A native of Longmont, Colo., Bruce attended both the University of Colorado and Colorado State University, earning a bachelor's in philosophy and a master's in english, respectively. During this time, Bruce also earned his USSF 'A' License. While attending the University of Colorado, Bruce won a NIRSA National Championship with the school's club team.
Between his time in Colorado and WNY, Bruce lived and worked in Medellin, Colombia for SENA, the country's two-year technical education program for adult learners. He taught English and coached the school's soccer team for SENA de Pedregal, where his team advanced to the semifinals of the regional tournament.
