Haven, a native of Liverpool, N.Y., rejoined his alma mater last season as an assistant coach and returns in 2003-04 for his second season. He had spent the previous three years under former Canisius head coach Mike Greco at St. Francis H.S. While there, he helped the Red Raiders to a 39-8 record, including a New York State-high 28-game winning streak. They won two Monsignor Martin Association titles, two New York Private School Championships, a Western New York League title, and achieved a ranking of 14th in New York State.
"I'm very excited to have coach Haven on board," said Mearns. "He has a great deal of knowledge when it comes to defensive schemes and checks. He brings a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to the program and being a graduate of Canisius, he has really taken a vested interest in making this program grow."
Haven's responsibilities will include running the defensive units, man-down team, recruiting, and conditioning. He has a bachelor's in psychology from Canisius and is currently enrolled in the school's MBA program. He lives in Buffalo and is the Western New York Manager for Samuel Adams.
