Biography

The Canisius College hockey team rounded out its 2015-16 roster with the addition of 10 year-old Deaglan Carney.

Carney joined the Golden Griffin program through Team IMPACT, an organization that aims to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.

A native of East Aurora, N.Y., Carney will be with the Griffs on game days as well as participating at team practices and off-ice activities.

Carney was diagnosed at the age of four with Craniofaringioma, a brain tumor sitting on his optic nerve. Upon diagnosis, doctors fully resected the tumor and also removed his pituitary gland. As a result, Carney battles adrenal insufficiency, significant peripheral vision impairment, growth issues and diabetes insipidus. Recently, doctors told him he could no longer play hockey for fear a hit could further reduce his already impaired vision.
