Grant Ledyard enters his second season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Canisius hockey team. The 18-year National Hockey League veteran will assist the coaching staff with the daily planning and implementation of on-ice practice sessions and game preparation while also helping with in-season and out-of-season conditioning programs. Ledyard also will help the program in efforts for fundraising and campus and community involvement, as well as assist in the breakdown of game film. Ledyard played 1,028 games in the NHL with nine different teams, with his last season coming in 2001-02 with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native scored 90 goals in his career to go along with 276 assists and 766 penalty minutes. Ledyard posted a career-high 46 points during the 1993-94 season. Ledyard participated in the NHL playoffs during 13 seasons, was a member of the Dallas Stars during their inaugural season and played for five seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. Before breaking into the NHL, Ledyard started his professional career with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League, then moved on to the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League and New Haven Nighthawks of the American Hockey League before making his NHL debut with the New York Rangers during the 1984-85 season. Ledyard was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum as a member of the Class of 2005.
