Became one of three Canisius players in school history to tally over 400 points, 150 rebounds and 100 assists in the same season; Craig Wise (1994-95) and Darrell Barley (1993-94) are the others... Ranked first in the league in three-point percentage (.451), seventh in field goal percentage (.481), seventh in assists (3.8/gm), 10th in scoring (13.1/gm) and seventh in assist to turnover ratio (+1.57)... Registered 55 assists and just 15 turnovers over the last nine games... Scored in double figures in 24 games, including the last eight, when he averaged 15.8 points a game... Led Canisius in scoring in 11 games... Led Canisius in assists in 11 contests... Scored a season high 19 points at Marquette and vs. Loyola (2/21)... Netted 18 points against Niagara (both games), Marist (1/16) and Iona (3/5)... Tallied 15 points, nine assists and five boards at Rider (2/16)... Named the Player of the Game after netting 14 points in the victory over Pacific at the Great Alaska Shootout.
2002-03: Fourth on the team in scoring with 9.2 points... Also averaged 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists... Second on the team in three-point shooting (.359)... Started all 28 games and averaged 32.3 minutes, the second-highest total for the Griffs... Ranked 11th in the MAAC in assists (3.1/gm) and fifth in assist to turnover margin (+1.76)... Scored in double figures in 11 games... Led Canisius in assists in four games... Netted 20 points at Marist (1/10)... Led Canisius with 18 points against Loyola (2/14), less than 24 hours after his father passed away... Earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors Feb. 18... Posted 16 points at Fairfield (2/6)... Tallied 11 points and seven rebounds at Loyola (1/26).
Before Canisius: Averaged 25.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists as a senior en route to earning All-Greater Rochester Co-Player of the Year honors... Led Livonia to the Section V Class B state title and a 23-1 record... Finished as the Bulldogs’ all-time leading scorer with 1,647 points... Named fourth-team all-state “Class B” as a senior... Three-time Livingston County Most Valuable Player... Three-time member of the “Class B” sectional team... Also earned two letters as a shortstop and pitcher in baseball... Named to the Livingston County first team twice and team MVP once.
Personal: The son of Linda Downey and the late Tom Downey... Has a sister, Christa (24), and a brother, Kyle (16)... Father was a beloved and decorated basketball coach at Livonia High, where he coached Kevin... Graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree biology and is slated to earn a master's in business administration in the summer of 2006.
