Before Canisius: Played three seasons at Niagara University, where he was recruited by Mike McRae... Named second-team All-MAAC in 2006 and earned MAAC all-tournament honors in 2005... Voted the league's Top Newcomer in 2004 by Baseball America... Led the Purple Eagles with a 3.54 ERA in 89 innings and struck out 57 in 2006... Posted a 4.21 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 92 innings in 2005... Registered a 4.48 ERA and struck out 59 in 76.1 innings as a freshman... Named first-team all-conference, all-league and all area as a senior at W.C. Miller High School; drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 36th round
