Matt Wells is currently in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Canisius baseball program.
Wells joins Canisius after spending eight months as a major league intern with the Seattle Mariners' video department. In Seattle, Wells created video packages to enhance scouting reports and reinforce successful executions of organizational philosophies. He additionally used video editing software to create visuals for player plans.
Before heading to the Emerald City, Wells spent two seasons with the New York Mets as an associate in player development. With the Mets, Wells created reports designed for utilizing and interpreting data collected mainly from Blast Motion and Trackman. He also created reports to help measure acute and chronic workloads for position players, as well as monitoring for potential injuries for pitchers. Wells was assigned to the Mets' Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse for the 2020 season after training associates at spring training in preparation for the minor league season.
This is Wells' second time serving as a volunteer assistant coach, where he spent two and a half years at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
A 2018 graduate from New York University, Wells earned his bachelor's degree in sports management with concentrations in organizational management, sports media and sports law. Wells was a four-year member of the Violets' baseball program, playing part in the university's inaugural season in 2014.
