Biography

2005-06: Notched career bests with 13 starts, 308 saves, 3.67 goals against average, .875 save percentage and 719:51 minutes played... Earned Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week for his play in two starts against Army Nov. 4-5, where he went 1-0-1 with an 1.40 goals against average and .930 save percentage... Became first Canisius hockey player to be named Top Scholar-Athlete in Atlantic Hockey with a 4.0 grade point average during the 2005-06 academic year... Named to the Academic All-Star Team for the second straight year and All-Academic Team for the third year

2004-05: Played in six games, posting an 0-4-0 record as the Griffs’ backup goaltender... Posted a career-high 42 saves in a 4-1 loss to No. 8 North Dakota Dec. 18... Recorded 36 saves in a 3-1 defeat at Wayne State Oct. 23

2003-04: Posted a 2-3-1 record in nine games as Griffs’ backup goaltender... Recorded first collegiate victory with a 5-4 overtime win over Sacred Heart Jan. 17... Posted season-high 31 saves in 2-2 draw with Findlay Nov. 22

Before Canisius: Finished the 2002-03 season with a 10-22-4 record, a 3.74 GAA and a .907 SV% for the Springfield Spirit of the North American Hockey League (NAHL)... A three-time NAHL/USA Junior Hockey Magazine Goaltender of the Week, Buetow led the league in saves with 1,388 stops in 42 games... Named the team’s Most Valuable Player... Played for St. Paul (Minn.) Academy from 1999-2001... Named all-conference and all-state while at St. Paul

Personal: An English major at Canisius, Max is the son of Bart and Connie Buetow... Has a sister, Heidi and a brother, Luke... Father Bart played football, hockey and track at the University of Minnesota and played in the National Football League with the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings
