Biography

Notes: Was named the 2003-04 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year at the conference's annual Media Day. Enters the season ranked 14th all-time in career scoring at Canisius. For the second-straight year, Stevens has been selected by her teammates to serve as a captain.

Junior Season: Led the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in scoring average with her career-best 20.5 points per game, while also pulling down 10.1 rebounds per contest. Scored 20 or more points in 17 of Canisius' 30 games and collected double figures in the scoring column in 29 of 30 games. Was credited with 17 double-doubles (points and rebounds) during the year. Scored a career-high 36 points at Niagara Jan. 21. Pulled down a career best 18 rebounds in the MAAC Tournament against Manhattan. Became the 14th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone Feb. 27, against Rider in the Koessler Athletic Center. Finished the season ranked 16th in the nation in scoring average and 14th in the nation in rebounds per game. Named the Eastern Michigan/Eagle Classic MVP after averaging 27 points in two wins over Stetson and Eastern Michigan. Was honored as a First Team All-MAAC and Preseason First Team All-MAAC selection for the 2002-03 season. Named to the Verizon Academic All-America Second Team in District I. Was named an Arthur Ashe Jr., Sports Scholar by Black Issues In Higher Education Magazine for the second year in a row. Was chosen as the MAAC's Player of the Week two times (Nov. 25, and Jan. 27). Became the second women in Canisius basketball history to be named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team. A MAAC All-Academic honoree two years in a row. Was selected by her fellow student-athletes as the Canisius College Female Student-Athlete of the Year award winner. Won her second-straight gold medal at the Empire State Games in the summer of 2003.

Sophomore Season: Played in all 28 Canisius games, starting in 18 of them. Was named to the MAAC's Second Team after averaging a career best 13.1 points per game. Was also named to the conference's All-Academic squad. Scored 29 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the Griffs' 86-76 win over Loyola Dec. 9. Scored her first career double-double at Rider Dec. 7, with 14 points and 13 boards in Canisius' 76-75 win over the Broncs. Had a career-high seven steals against Manhattan in the Koessler Athletic Center Jan. 6. Was credited with four double-doubles, all against MAAC opponents. Named the MAAC Player of the Week Dec. 9, after averaging 21.5 points per game and 13 boards in two Canisius wins (at Rider and at Loyola). Led the team in three-point shooting percentage with her 76.2 percent average (40-106). Ranked second on the team with 7.1 boards per game. Was featured in an article in Newsday for her shot blocking abilities. Her 30 block in 2001-02 led the team and ranked her seventh in the MAAC. Also led the team in steals with 59, and was ranked fourth in the conference, averaging 2.11 steals per game. Was named honorable mention Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar by Black Issues in Higher Education Magazine. Was named Most Improved Player along with teammate Lonnie Brown and also was recognized as the team's Best Defensive Player by her teammates. Won a gold medal at the Empire State Games in the summer of 2002.

Freshman Season - 2000-2001: Saw playing time in all 28 games during her freshman campaign. Averaged 15 minutes per contest. Scored a then career-high 13 points in a loss to St. Peter's on Feb. 18. Was named Most Improved Player along with teammate Jes Butler.

Before Canisius: Was first team All-Long Island by Newsday as a senior at Holy Trinity. Was named to her conference all-academic squad during her junior and senior seasons. She was an all-league shortstop in softball.

Personal: The daughter of James and Gloria Stevens, Jenel is a business management major at Canisius. Has one younger brother, Javier.
