Golf Finishes Second at Little Three Championship

Six of the top-10 finishers came from St. Bonaventure, led by individual champion Dante Bertoni, as the host Bonnies won the 72nd edition of the Little Three Golf Championship Tuesday at Bartlett Country Club in Olean, N.Y.

St. Bonaventure posted a team score of 564 (+4) to secure the program's 47th Little Three Championship title. This marks the ninth time in the last 10 years where St. Bonaventure has won the Little Three Championship. Canisius took second with a team score of 582 (+22), while defending Little Three champion Niagara took third with a score of 600 (+40).

For Canisius, graduate student Matthew Santini finished tied for second with his two-round score of 142, which was two-over on the par-70 course. Sophomore Cole Thompson tied for fifth with his tournament score of 144, while senior Mikey Takacs tied for 11th in the field with his 36-hole score of 149.

Bertoni won the event with a score of 139, which was one-under par, highlighted by his opening-round 69. That was one of two rounds under par on the day, as his teammate, Colin Barber, also shot an opening-round 69. Barber finished tied for second in the field after he carded a 72 in the second round.

The Golden Griffins will return to the course Sept. 21-22 when the team plays in the Temple Invitational at The 1912 Club in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
