Golf Closes Out Opening Weekend at Colgate

Canisius senior Mikey Takacs fired a two-under par score of 70 and junior Chase Burgess carded a career-low round of 71 in the final round of the 10th annual Alex Lagowitz Memorial Sunday at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, N.Y.

Takacs' final round 70 allowed him to finish the tournament tied for fifth with a 54-hole score of 213, which is a new career low in a three-round tournament for the Iowa City, Iowa native. It also marked the second time in his career where he played all three rounds of a 54-hole event at par or better.

Burgess, who moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard on Sunday, recorded five birdies in his first eight holes on Sunday en route to his career-low round. He finished the Golden Griffins' first event of the 2026 fall schedule tied for 27th with his tournament score of 219, which also set a new career-low for him in a 54-hole event.

As a team, Canisius tied for ninth in the 13-team field with Cornell with a team score of 882. Seton Hall won the team title with a score of 853, which was 10 strokes better than second-place Saint Joseph's. Bucknell golfer Charlie Barrickman took individual medalist honors with his three-round score of 209.

Canisius will return to the course on Tuesday, when the team travels to take part in the Little Three Championship against long-time rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure. The 72nd edition of the Little Three Championship will be played at Bartlett Country Club in Olean, N.Y.
