Men’s Soccer Drops Road Contest at Mercyhurst

Alvar Silva netted his fourth goal of the season as Mercyhurst scored the first two goals of the contest en route to a 3-1 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's soccer action Saturday at Saxon Stadium in Erie, Pa.

Luis Felipe Santos opened the scoring with his penalty kick tally and Nathan Katari scored with just four minutes remaining to lead the Lakers (2-2-1) to the win. Jaime Tedaldi got the start in net for Mercyhurst, making one save.

Senior AJ Zarcone netted the lone goal for the Griffs (0-4-0) as sophomore Noah Baumslag picked up his third point of the season with the assist. Graduate goalkeeper Preston Harold made his fourth start of the season, making four saves.

The Lakers opened the scoring with just five minutes to go in the first half as the Griffs were called for a foul in the box. Santos stepped up and slotted home the penalty kick to give Mercyhurst the lead heading into the break.

Mercyhurst extended its lead in the 64th minute when Silva picked off the Griffs pass, finding himself all alone before beating Harold to make it 2-0.

Canisius answered just four minutes later when Baumslag delivered a corner kick into the box that found the head of Zarcone, who beat Tedaldi to cut the Mercyhurst lead to 2-1.

The Lakers struck again with just four minutes to play when Katari beat a pair of Canisius defenders to a loose ball and found the bottom left corner of goal to tally his first collegiate marker as Mercyhurst closed out the two-goal victory.
