Men’s Cross Country Claims 20th Consecutive Little Three Title

Led by a third-place finish from junior Fenway Breckels, the Canisius men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons Saturday hosting the Little Three Championship at Delaware Park in Buffalo, N.Y.

In the season-opening race that saw the Golden Griffins face longtime rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure, the Canisius men tallied 26 points, placing eight of the top-12 finishers to claim their 20th straight Little Three Championship. The Canisius women's team placed third place in the women's 5K. St. Bonaventure won the women's event with 27 points.

A native of St. Catharines, Ontario, Breckels finished third in the men's race with his time of 15:29.3, just behind St. Bonaventure runners Aiden Scattergood and Brayden Friar.

Seven of the next nine finishers in the men's race were Griffs, as juniors Nathaniel Fisher (15:37.3), Ryan Giglia (15:37.7) and Joseph Capuzzo (15:40.0) placed fifth through seventh. Just behind them, sophomores Tim Lukasik (15:52.0), Jack Stanford (15:54.0), junior Adam Kozman (16:06.2), and sophomore Jacob Granville (16:06.9) rounded out the top-12, placing ninth through 12th, respectively.

On the women's side, freshman Emily Priset claimed the top spot for the Blue and Gold in her collegiate debut, finishing in sixth place with her time of 19:36.9. Sophomore Julia Gullo placed 14th in the race for Canisius, crossing the line in 20:12.9.
