Golf Finishes Tied for Fourth at Temple Invitational

The Canisius golf team posted a score of 288 on Tuesday, highlighted by senior Mikey Takacs' fifth career round in the 60s, as the Golden Griffins finished tied for fourth in a 12-team field at the Jack MacDonald Temple Invitational at The 1912 Club in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.

Canisius' three-round score of 875 tied the Griffs with LaSalle. The host Temple Owls won their tournament with a 54-hole team score of 862, while Delaware (863) and Lehigh (868) finished second and third, respectively. The Griffs' 875 stands as the lowest 54-hole tournament score for Canisius since the Blue and Gold posted an 872 at the 2009 Bucknell Invitational.

Takacs' one-under par score of 69 allowed him to move up 19 spots on the leader board, as he finished tied for ninth in the field with his three-round total of 217. Sophomore Cole Thompson recorded his second top-10 this season by tying for seventh, after he finished the two-day event with a score of 216. Junior Chase Burgess carded a one-over 71 on Tuesday to move up 13 spots on the leader board. He ended the event tied for 19th.

Canisius will return to action Oct. 4-5 when the team travels to take part in the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate at the Links at Hiawatha in Apalachin, N.Y.
