Strong Second Round Has Golf in Fifth Place at Temple Invite

Four Golden Griffin golfers combined to post a team score of 287 (+7), led by graduate student Matthew Santini's 71, to help move the Canisius golf team to fifth place after the first two rounds of the Jack MacDonald Temple Invitational, played Monday at The 1912 Club in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.

The team score of 287 is the lowest for the Griffs this fall season. Santini's 71 in the second round, coupled with his opening-round 74, have him tied for 15th in the field with three other golfers, including sophomore teammate Cole Thompson. Thompson shot a two-over par 72 in the second round after he carded a 73 in the day's opening 18 holes.

Senior Mikey Takacs posted a two-over 72 in the second round, and he is tied for 28 after the event's first 36 holes, while sophomore Chase Burgess also shot a 72 in the second round on Monday to move up six spots on the leaderboard. He is tied for 32nd in the field.

As a team, Delaware leads the event with a two-round score of 575, which is one stroke better than second-place Lehigh. Canisius' team score of 587 has the Blue and Gold seven strokes behind host Temple.

The third and final round of the Jack MacDonald Temple Invitational is set to tee off Tuesday at 9 a.m.
