Zacher Named Preseason All-AHA

Canisius senior forward Walter Zacher was named a Preseason All-Atlantic Hockey America selection as the league announced the results of its preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday.
 
A native of Buffalo, Zacher enters his senior season looking to build upon a stellar 2025-26 campaign that saw him garner All-AHA Third Team accolades after tallying a team-best 19 goals, ranking him second in the AHA and 11th nationally in goals per game (0.59).
 
Finishing second on the squad in points (31) and third in assists (19), Zacher was a two-time AHA Forward of the Week honoree. He tallied multiple points on seven occasions, highlighted by a quartet of three-point performances. Zacher finished the 2025-26 season on a high-note, rattling off a four-game point streak to close out the campaign, racking up three goals and five assists in those contests.
 
In the preseason coaches' poll, Sacred Heart received three first-place votes and 59 total points to edge out two-time defending league champion Bentley (58) for the top spot. The Falcons, who received a league-best five first-place votes, were followed by RIT (51) in third and Holy Cross (42) in fourth. Air Force (34), Robert Morris (27), Army (25), Canisius (14) and Niagara (14) completed the poll.
 
Entering its 10th season under head coach Trevor Large, Canisius opens the 2026-27 campaign Oct. 2-3 with a home non-conference series against Ferris State.
