Nicolazzo Nets Natural Hat Trick as Men’s Soccer Picks Up Senior Day Win

Junior Romero Nicolazzo netted a natural hat trick during a seven-minute span in the second half as Canisius cruised to a 6-0 win over St. John Fisher in collegiate men's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

Senior Edson Flores opened the scoring for the Golden Griffins (1-4-0) in the first half while sophomore Henrique Dias and senior Kevin Villacorta-Osorto accounted for the other two second-half goals as Canisius secured the Senior Day victory. Graduate goalkeeper Preston Harold started in net for the Griffs, making one save to earn the shutout.

Andrew Thomas got the nod in goal for the visiting Cardinals (1-2-1), making five saves.

The Griffs opened the scoring in the 16th minute as seniors Miles Wadiche and Kiernan Van Engen worked a tic-tac-toe play that ended with Flores placing a shot into the top-right corner of the net to give Canisius the early lead.

Out of the halftime break, Canisius doubled its margin as sophomore Noah Baumslag delivered a corner kick into the box, as Dias rose to head the ball past the Cardinals keeper.

Nicolazzo then found the back of the net three times in a span of just seven minutes, scoring in the 57th, 62nd and 64th minutes to put the game out of reach. Baumslag picked up assists on two of the goals, while freshman Lorenzo Tuch recorded his first collegiate point with an assist on Nicolazzo's first goal of the afternoon.

The Griffs closed out the scoring in the 87th minute as Villacorta-Osorto converted a penalty kick to seal the 6-0 Senior Day victory.
