Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Surge Sends Robert Morris Past Women’s Soccer

Robert Morris scored twice during the later stages of the second half to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Canisius, 3-1, in collegiate women's soccer action Thursday at the Demske Sports Complex in downtown Buffalo.

Sophia Cucchetti notched the game-winning goal in the 69th minute while Madison Sievering added an insurance marker in the 86th minute to secure the win for the Colonials (1-2-0). Alyssa Mella opened the scoring in the 14th minute while Emma Cameron made six saves to secure the victory.

Senior Maggie Cregan accounted for the lone goal for the Golden Griffins (1-1-0). Freshman goalie Alexa Turmel got the start in goal for Canisius and finished with two saves.

Mella staked the Colonials to an early lead less than 15 minutes into the game as she took advantage of a Canisius turnover before slotting a ball past Turmel for her first of the campaign.

Cregan brought the Griffs level in the 56th minute with an unassisted effort as she floated a shot from the right side over Cameron and into the left side panel of the net to tie the score.

Cucchetti restored the Colonials advantage at the 68:14 mark when she put home a loose ball after Mella's initial attempt was turned aside by Turmel.

Sievering provided some insurance in the 86th minute as she knocked home Morgan Gesinski's feed from close range to secure the two-goal victory.
