Baseball Bested by Baldwin Wallace Tuesday

Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider went 3-for-5 with three extra-base hits and five RBI to pace Baldwin Wallace in a 10-2 victory over Canisius in intercollegiate baseball action Tuesday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo.

Ritlingr-Nirider clubbed two home runs and added a double to highlight a Yellow Jackets (28-8) lineup that finished with 11 hits. Ryan Gordon was 2-for-5 with a double while Mason Fixx was 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Matt Moscarino picked up the win to improve to 3-1 on the season, pitching six innings and allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out seven.

Redshirt junior Thomas Zwirecki went 2-for-3 for the Golden Griffins (14-23). Freshman Blake Herman and Sophomore Brayden Hy accounted for the other two Canisius base knocks in the contest.

Freshman Jackson Long was credited with the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) in 3-1 innings of work. He struck out five and issued one walk.

Canisius opened the scoring in the home half of the second inning as Hy ripped a one-out double to left, plating pinch runner Tommy Sheridan from second.

Baldwin Wallace answered back in the top of the third as Ritlinger-Nirider connected on 2-2 pitch and hit a solo shot to center field to knot the score at 1-1.

The Yellow Jackets took control of the contest in the fourth, scoring six runs on four hits, highlighted by a three-run blast from Ritlinger-Nirider, to jump out to a 7-1 lead.

The Griffs trimmed the deficit in the home half of the fifth as a fielder's choice off the bat of Grady Brown made it a five-run contest.

Baldwin Wallace regained its six-run cushion in the sixth as Ritlinger-Nirider roped a double to left to score Reid Flemming and make it an 8-2 contest.

The Yellow Jackets closed out the scoring in the ninth as a run-scoring single from Nolan Kellicker and an error brought home the final two runs and determined the eight-run margin of victory.
