Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Falls at Manhattan

Manhattan used a 6-0 run midway through the contest to erase an early deficit and defeat Canisius, 9-6, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y.

Aidan Kane notched a goal and dished out a game-high three assists for the Jaspers (3-10, 1-6 MAAC). Sean Shelko recorded three goals while Thomas White finished with a pair of tallies. Ryan Beller posted 15 saves between the pipes for the Jaspers.

Senior Alexis Simard notched two goals and recorded a game-high three caused turnovers to pace the Golden Griffins (3-10, 2-5 MAAC). With his caused turnover in the first quarter, Simard became the program's career caused turnover leader, surpassing former Canisius standout Holden Garlent.

Senior Micah Hanson went 11-of-16 at the "X" and finished with five ground balls. Redshirt freshman Sam Kosloski recorded 10 saves in goal for the visitors.

Trailing 3-1 late in the first quarter, an even-strength tally from Kane started the game-changing run that lasted into the middle stages of the third quarter and gave Manhattan a 7-3 lead. White and Shelko notched two goals each to pace the Jaspers during the nearly 26-minute run, while Kane and Jack Miller added individual tallies.

Seniors Devin Collins halted the Manhattan surge with 6:37 remaining in the third to make it a three-goal contest, but that was as close as the Griffs would get as the teams traded tallies for the remainder of regulation, allowing the Jaspers to record the three-goal victory.

POSTGAME COMMENTS
"We had plenty of opportunities to get good looks at the net today, but we shot the ball terribly. When you shoot at 29 percent, you're not going to win. We did not pay attention to the scouting report; we went rogue and that's a large reason why we find ourselves on the losing end of this one.

"It's partly about finishing on opportunities when we get them, but it's also coming down to the little details of mechanics and moving into the ball and different things that we talk and work on every single day. We have not been able to translate and apply it on the game day enough this year and that's frustrating.

"Alexis has just been an absolute great player, great leader and great person for the program. He's well-deserving of that accolade with his stats and somebody who can be relied upon to score goals for us, even in transition. He was trying to will us today towards victory with his play and there's not a lot of guys cut from that type of cloth. That's the type of leadership that you look for out of your upperclassmen and hopefully, we can get guys wanting to emulate a guy like Sim moving forward."
