Softball Ends Weekend at Marshall with a Loss

Marshall scored four times in the home-half of the fifth inning to break open what was a two-run game en route to a 7-1 victory over Canisius in non-conference softball action Sunday afternoon at Dot Hicks Field in Huntington, W.Va.

The win extended the Thundering Herd's win streak to eight and improved the team to 17-8 overall, while the Golden Griffins fell to 4-8 with their fifth-straight loss.

Marshall starter Jules King allowed just one hit over 5.0 inning and she fanned four while picking up her seventh win of the season in the circle. The Herd was led offensively by Ramey George, who went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer in the victory.

For Canisius, starter Brooke Bodewes took the loss in the circle after she allowed just one run on four hits to go with a walk in 1.2 innings of work. Canisius used four pitchers on Sunday, and the team's pitching staff was charged with just two earned runs, as the Griffs' defense committed a costly error to start the home-half of the fifth inning.

Senior Sofia Escoto, junior Rebecca Hai and freshman Renne Hester all recorded hits in the losing cause for the Griffs. Hester's hit, a pinch-hit double that led off the top-half of the fifth inning, is her third two-base hit of the season.

Canisius will open the MAAC portion of its 2026 schedule March 14-15 with a three-game series at Sacred Heart.
