Mount St. Mary's opened the game with a five-run first inning en route to an 8–4 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference baseball action Sunday at E.T. Straw Family Stadium in Emmitsburg, Md.

The Mountaineers completed the sweep of the three-game series to improve to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in the MAAC. The Golden Griffins, meanwhile, dropped to 3-12 on the season with an early 0-3 start in conference play with Sunday's setback.

Alex Mendes and Sam Meyer both recorded three RBI to pace the Mount St. Mary's lineup. Jakob Foster picked up his third win of the campaign to move to 3–0, coming on in relief and tossing 3.0 innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five.

Senior Sam Staerker was credited with the loss on the hill for the Golden Griffins after going 2.1 innings, allowing six runs.

The Mount continued its strong series at the plate during the first inning as they plated five runs on four hits, highlighted by a three-run home run from Meyer, to grab an early lead.

The Griffs plated two runs in the second frame as redshirt freshman Bennett Cox worked a bases-loaded walk, followed by junior JC Spinosa getting hit by a pitch to cut the Mount advantage to 5–2.

Sophomore Brayden Hy continued to chip into the Mount lead during the following inning, picking up his first hit of the season on an RBI single that made it a 5-3 ballgame.

The Mountaineers responded in the bottom half of the third as Mendes scored on an error, extending the Mount lead back to three.

Mount St. Mary's continued to strike in the fourth as Mendes plated an RBI single through the right side for the 7-3 lead.

The sixth inning saw the Mountaineers plate their final run of the day as Mendes recorded his third RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-3.

Freshman Jake Cagna plated an RBI single up the middle in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring, but the Mountaineers held on for the four-run victory.
