Men’s Lacrosse Rallies to Down Quinnipiac in Overtime

Sophomore midfielder Dawson Wade scored 1:23 into overtime to lift Canisius to a 9-8 victory over Quinnipiac in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Sophomore midfielder Carson Christy notched his first hat trick of the season for the Golden Griffins (3-5, 2-0 MAAC). Senior Micah Hanson scored two goals as he went 8-of-16 at the "X" and scooped up a game-high seven ground balls. Redshirt sophomore Sam Kosloski posted a career-best 16 saves between the pipes to earn his second win of the season.

Cole Marsala finished with a game-high four points (1g-3a) for the Bobcats (1-6, 0-2 MAAC). Nate Watson pitched in two goals while Justin Robbert added a goal and an assist. Sean McCaffrey was 8-for-14 on draws and added six ground balls. Evan Miner finished with 14 stops in goal for the visitors.

Wade registered his first career goal with his overtime marker to cap a comeback that saw the Griffs rally from an 8-6 deficit at the start of the fourth quarter. Christy and senior Kaiden Libby netted the two goals for Canisius during the final frame of regulation while Kosloski and the Griffs defense kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard of the final 15 minutes to send the game to overtime.
Quinnipiac won the opening faceoff in overtime and eventually worked the ball to Marsala, who got a shot off that was turned aside by Kosloski. On the Griffs first possession of overtime, Belles got the ball behind the cage and fed a pass to Wade in front, where he shoveled a shot between the legs of Miner to secure the victory.

Canisius started the contest on a strong note, using two tallies each from both Christy and Hanson and an individual marker from freshman Justin Relosky to snag a 5-1 lead with a little more than five minutes to play in the second quarter.

The Bobcats countered with goals from Marsala and Watson to halt the Griffs opening surge and make it a two-goal game, only to see sophomore Peter Biglin strike with seven seconds to play before the end of the half to make it a 6-3 game at the break.

Quinnipiac took control of the contest in the third quarter, notching all five goals in the frame to surge in front, 8-6. Marsala completed his hat trick with a pair of tallies while three players chipped in one goal each to put the Bobcats in front and provide the setting for Canisius' late-game comeback.
