Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Notches Road Win Over Robert Morris

Freshman Ella Forcucci scored five goals to lead Canisius to an 11-8 win over Robert Morris in non-conference women's lacrosse action Friday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa.

With the win, the Golden Griffins improved to 2-0 on the season while the Colonials fell to 1-1 with the loss.

Sophomore Katie Adams added a hat trick of her own to aid the Canisius attack. Senior Ava Pezzimenti scooped up a team-best three ground balls while junior Bridget Brown was credited with two caused turnovers. Graduate student Isabel Gautreaux entered the game in the second half and made six saves on eight shots.

For Robert Morris, Mia Berhoff turned an all-around effort with four goals, an assist and four ground balls. Teammate Katrina Bottomley made 11 saves in net on 22 shots faced.

Canisius raced out to a 5-0 lead, with Adams tallying two goals to power the Griffs opening salvo. Robert Morris got on the board with 2:44 remaining in the opening quarter to trim the Griffs cushion to 5-1 after the opening quarter.

After sophomore Makenna Crouse found the back of the net on a free position shot just 47 seconds into the second quarter, Robert Morris was able to respond by scoring three of the game's next four goals to shrink the Canisius lead down to 7-4. Forcucci completed her first half hat trick with 5:37 left in the period to regain the four-goal margin that the Griffs took into the halftime break.

Out of the intermission, the Colonials used another 3-1 run to draw within two of Canisius, 9-7 with 5:36 remaining in the third. Forcucci answered back for the Griffs, notchiing her fourth goal of the afternoon at the 3:55 mark of the third quarter before striking once more 2:41 into the fourth quarter to rebuild a four-goal margin for the Blue and Gold.

Robert Morris answered the bell once again, scoring with 8:26 left in the game to narrow the deficit to three. With the Colonials trying to rally, Gautreaux stepped up and made four saves to secure the victory.
