Indoor Track Concludes Regular Season at SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games

The Canisius indoor track team returns to action with a trip to Geneva, Ohio to compete in the SPIRE Institute Collegiate Indoor Games for the third consecutive season.

On Jan. 31, the Golden Griffins competed in the YSU Mid Major Invitational in Youngstown, Ohio. Senior Brody Jones led the way, winning the 1000-meter run in a record-setting 2:27.53, breaking a school mark that had stood since 2001.

Coming off a week that pinned freshman Jaxyn Mahoney the Jersey Mike's MAAC Rookie of the Week, Mahoney registered another strong meet with a first-place finish in the mile run, crossing the line in 4:22.24. Sophomore Ryan Giglia placed in third with a time of 4:23.10. Freshman Nathaniel Fisher rounded out the top 10 with a ninth-place finish and a time of 4:26.08.

Several Griffs garnered personal records over the weekend as well. Senior Kyle Urban became the third Golden Griffin to place first, this time in the 5000-meter with a time of 14:31.82. Sophomore Nathaniel Fisher finished third in the same event with a time of 14:34.90.

On the women's side, freshman Charlotte Keenan set a personal record in the 400-meter run, with a time of 59.92.

The Golden Griffins return several top finishers from last season's men's mile run, led by Urban, who placed third with a time of 4:20.56. Fisher followed closely in fourth (4:21.73), while freshman Fenway Breckels finished fifth in 4:23.08. Adam Kozman rounded out the Griffs top-10 finishers with a ninth-place time of 4:27.37.

The Griffs wrap up the indoor track season next weekend as they travel to the 2026 MAAC Indoor Track Championships at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York, N.Y.
